The A3I Short Cultural Program –
UniMAP was a remarkable international collaboration organized in partnership with the University of
Yamanashi (Japan), Pukyong National University (Korea), and Hangzhou Dianzi University (China). Held
in Malaysia from 12 to 25 August 2025, the program offered a unique platform for cultural exchange,
academic enrichment, and international engagement.
The program enabled students from
four countries to participate in a diverse range of academic, cultural, and social activities. It
fostered global friendships, mutual understanding, and cross-cultural competence, while enhancing
students’ educational experiences through shared perspectives and collaborative learning.
The program was held in Malaysia from 12 February to 25 August 2025.
UniMAP became the host from 12 to 25 August 2025.
The first day commenced with the arrival of our esteemed guests from University of Yamanashi (UY) and Pukyong National University (PKNU), who, after their long journey, embarked on a cultural immersion that began with their exploration of the colorful streets of Penang, continued through the scenic charms of Kedah, and culminated in the warm and heartfelt reception in Perlis, where the sense of unity and collaboration between institutions was immediately felt, symbolizing the official beginning of this enriching cultural and academic mobility program hosted by UniMAP.
The second day unfolded as a
lively blend of interactive sessions and academic pursuits. It began with ice-breaking games that
encouraged laughter, teamwork, and the forging of new friendships among participants. This was
followed by an engaging Bahasa Melayu session where international participants learned key phrases and
expressions that helped them foster deeper cultural connections.
Later in the day, students
joined a spirited Malaysian traditional dance workshop that immersed them in the beauty of graceful
gestures and rhythmic movements. The program then culminated with a forward-looking Artificial
Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) workshop hosted by the Faculty of Electronic
Engineering and Technology and the Faculty of Intelligent Computing and Analytics, UniMAP. This
session allowed delegates to explore technological innovations that are shaping the future, ensuring
that the day was remembered not only for cultural immersion but also for academic and technological
discovery.
The third day highlighted
the intersection of culture, education, and technology. Participants attended the Football AI
Tournament (FAiT 2025) at SK Seri Indra, where they witnessed the inspiring fusion of Malaysia’s
passion for football with the power of artificial intelligence. With twenty-eight schools and over
four hundred students involved, the event became a celebration of sports, innovation, and teamwork. It
was supported by valued partners such as Akademi Sains Malaysia, Jabatan Hal Ehwal Pelajar UniMAP,
Grovasi Sdn. Bhd., iDeria Sdn. Bhd., and SK Seri Indra, the host and trophy
sponsor.
In addition to this
exciting event, A3I students enjoyed an insightful tour of SK Seri Indra, during which they explored
the school environment, interacted warmly with local students, and exchanged smiles across cultures.
Later in the day, they visited Pusat TVET UniMAP and the Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Library, where
they deepened their understanding of Malaysia’s academic and technological
landscape.
The evening shifted to
cultural bonding through traditional Malaysian games such as congkak and gasing, which brought
laughter, learning, and an appreciation of heritage. The day concluded with a hearty steamboat and
grill dinner at Aura, where food, joy, and shared memories sealed the bonds of friendship between
Malaysian hosts and international guests.
The fourth day offered participants a balance of
cultural heritage, technological exploration, and memorable fellowship. It began with
an enlightening visit to Galeri DiRaja Arau, where UY and PKNU students discovered
Perlis’s royal legacy, absorbing stories of tradition and historical treasures.
Later in the day, the program turned to
innovation with UniMAP’s IoT and AI Workshop, where delegates engaged in hands-on
projects that demonstrated the potential of intelligent systems in shaping future
societies. This was followed by an inspiring experience at RoboCup Malaysia Open
2025, where robots and innovation came to life before their eyes in a dynamic
display of creativity and engineering.
The evening concluded with “Malam Ramah Mesra
A3I” at Carliff Ikan Bakar, where UniMAP, UY, and PKNU students gathered over
Malaysian cuisine, laughter, and spectacular cultural performances of singing and
dancing. The event showcased the harmony of three nations united through culture and
friendship.
The fifth day unfolded as
one of the most vibrant chapters of the program. It began with a colorful batik workshop where UY and
PKNU students immersed themselves in the traditional Malaysian art of waxing and dyeing fabric,
producing creative works of their own.
Afterward, a hearty lunch
at Anjung Keli introduced them to authentic northern Malaysian delicacies such as ikan keli prepared
with distinctive local flavors. The afternoon was filled with a bustling shopping adventure at
Padang Besar, where souvenirs, fashion, and food created laughter-filled memories in the lively
border market.
Participants then enjoyed
a scenic and relaxing visit to Tasik Timah Tasoh, which offered serene views and natural beauty. The
day reached its climax with the A3I Symposium at Universiti Malaysia Perlis, where students
exchanged research ideas, explored innovation, and celebrated academic collaboration. The evening
concluded with a Networking Dinner that honored the friendships nurtured between Malaysia, Japan,
and Korea.
The sixth day was marked
by a breathtaking journey to Langkawi. UY and PKNU students ascended the iconic Langkawi SkyCab,
soaring above lush rainforests, dramatic mountain ridges, and glistening seas. The experience
provided panoramic views that blended adventure, wonder, and the unforgettable beauty of Malaysia’s
natural landscapes.
The seventh day carried
participants further into the wonders of Langkawi. They embarked on an island-hopping adventure,
exploring the mystical beauty of Tasik Dayang Bunting, enjoying the thrill of eagle feeding on open
waters, and relaxing upon the white sands of Pantai Beras Basah. These activities created memories
of nature, culture, and camaraderie under the warmth of the Malaysian sun.
The eighth day allowed
participants to rest and reflect at their hotel in Perlis. It also served as a transition as the
group prepared for the next stage of the program, making their way to Pulau Pinang for the
continuation of cultural exploration and academic enrichment.
The ninth day provided a
remarkable opportunity for industry exposure through a visit to the Renesas Factory in Penang.
UY and PKNU students gained valuable insights into advanced semiconductor technology, smart
manufacturing processes, and real-world applications of engineering innovation.
The visit bridged the gap
between classroom theory and industrial practice. It left participants inspired by the
cutting-edge work driving the global technology sector.
The tenth day offered a
blend of cultural exploration and leisure. It began with an inspiring tour of George Town’s famous
street art, where colorful murals and creative installations introduced students to Penang’s unique
heritage as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the evening,
participants enjoyed relaxation and camaraderie at Penang Bowl, where friendly competition in
bowling matches brought cheers, laughter, and unforgettable bonding moments among the Malaysian,
Japanese, and Korean students.
The final day of the program
carried a tone of heartfelt reflection and sincere emotion. UniMAP bid farewell to the visiting
delegations, first to our friends from Pukyong National University, whose energy, warmth, and
collaboration left an indelible mark on all who shared this journey.
Later, the University of
Yamanashi delegation departed after filling the program with their passion for learning, openness to
culture, and genuine friendship. Although distance now separates the participants, the bonds formed
in Malaysia remain strong, leaving behind cherished memories and the promise of future collaboration
between Malaysia, Japan, and Korea.
